This trip was an experience of a life time. I made great connections that I will hopefully have for the rest of my life. Gent was my favorite city out of all the cities I traveled to over the past 3 weeks. I really liked walking around and seeing all of the old, large buildings as well as people watching. The people in Gent were also more friendly than people in other places. You could walk up to anyone, ask them a question and they would be happy to respond. In other countries some people would talk to you but I almost felt like I was a burden to them. This class really opened my eyes to how different Europe is compared to the United States. One thing I did like coming back to was the free and unlimited water! I did not like having to pay for one water while I was at lunch or dinner.
Europe tries to be a lot more sustainable than the United States. Yes we recycle plastic and paper but, Belgium makes a point to recycle pretty much everything they use: paper, glass, plastic, food, etc. Belgians also use more solar powered devices, or it seems like they do. In which they are being sustainable by saving energy.
The trip went by so fast. I cannot believe that it is already over. I do want to return to Gent in the future to spend more time learning about the culture and history of the city! It is not a goodbye but a see you soon :)
XOXO
